Hello, I think you are all lightened the deepam and enjoyed the Karthigai Maha Deepam. Now we are entering the next month Margazi. This months is between December 15 to January 15.

Lord Krishna said to Arjuna in Gita he is the month of Margazi. So this is a great month. We people don’t do wedding in this month. Only birthday celebration. This is called as Deva’s month. More important is Lord Vishnu (Lord Krishna).

Early morning we light deepam in front of the gate and we do pongal neivethiyam to God. In Tamil Nadu fully devotional songs and bhajans is played in all days of the month in all the temples. In Srivelliputur Andal Temple, (Periyalwars Daughter) was a ardant devotee to Ranganatha Perumal and she wanted to marry him. She was always did pooja to Perumal and made garlands to him and sung his praise which is called as Thirupavai.

Last but two days before this month ends Lord Ranganatha Perumal fulfilled her wish and married Andal.

In this month Ekathesi is called as Vaigunda Ekathesi. That day people fast and take thulasi water go to the temple to see the God and come out of the temple through the right side gate of the temple which is called as Sorga Vasal. That gate is always closed and opened only during this month.

Madura which is Krishna’s birth place and Gokulam where he grew up also does pooja and Bhajans to Krishna. In Brindavan the temple is just like Srirangam temple in Tamil Nadu. Inside the temple there is a Ayanamal which glows throughout the year. In Dwaraka they wake up Krishna early morning by Subrapatham. It is called as Udapam. They do 17 poojas through the day this month. They also serve Laddu and Jelabi and milk, sugar as prasadam.

Krishna Bhakthi is five times

1. Santhan (Sanyasi like Bhakthi)
2. Dasyam (Slave like Bhakthi - Pasiragare)
3. Sakya (Friend like Bhakthi – example Arjuna, Kusela)
4. Vatsalyam (Child Like Bhakthi – Yesodha)
5. Madhuriyam (Fall in Love Bhakthi – Meera, Andal, Radha)

In Margazi Lord Shiva is also special. Thiruvathari Arudhra star is famous for Shiva. Lord Shiva did Koothadum Thandavam on that day in Chidambaram. That is one of the joyful dancing of Lord Shiva. On that day we make Kali (means happy) and seven vegetables mix kootu (get together).

In Chennai also people wake up early and go to temple and praise Krishna is everywhere. Margazi is a musical months with lots of Kutcheris happening around Chennai. All together we pray and enjoy this month by praising the Lord to give happy and enjoyable life.
